RWE & Turcas Güney Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., a joint venture between Turcas and major German utility RWE AG, commissioned one of the largest, most efficient and environment-friendly gas-fired combined-cycle power plants in Turkey in the city of Denizli. RWE holds a 70% shareholding in RWE & Turcas Güney Elektrik Üretim A.Ş., with Turcas holding 30%. Both RWE and Turcas accepted the challenge to construct and operate a 775 MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Honaz, Denizli in 2010. The aim of this collaboration between RWE and Turcas is to ensure environmentally friendly and safe operation, and to make a substantial contribution towards the long-term development of Denizli and the region. This partnership between two high-expertise companies has ensured that the new power plant is designed according to state-of-the-art, innovative and environmentally friendly international standards, while at the same time fulfilling the specific requirements of the Turkish energy market.
Since the 775 MW CCGT power plant in Denizli started commercial operation in August 2013, it has covered the increasing demand for energy in the region and has supplied around 3 million households' demand equivalent of electricty. It thus supplies approximately 1.2% of the electricity produced in the country. This state-of-the-art CCGT power plant makes a significant contribution to security of electricity supply in Turkey.
RWE & Turcas Güney Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. operates in Turkey from three different locations: the Ankara headquarters, the Istanbul office and the Denizli CCGT power plant.
