Working with Our Suppliers

What we expect from our suppliers – and what you can expect from us

What We Expect from Our Suppliers

We work with suppliers who can meet our operational needs safely, responsibly and reliably. The principles below guide our relationships. The specific requirements for each purchase are set out in the relevant enquiry, purchase order or contract.

For new and existing suppliers, these expectations cover key aspects of our cooperation, from compliance, health and safety to innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement. They provide a clear understanding of what matters to us when working together.

  • We expect suppliers and their subcontractors to comply with applicable laws, contractual obligations and the relevant RWE and RTG requirements. This includes acting in line with the principles of the RWE Code of Conduct, keeping accurate records and raising concerns promptly. Suppliers should apply appropriate standards throughout their own supply chains.

  • As part of our “Mission Zero” programme, we expect suppliers and their subcontractors to prioritise health, safety and environmental protection in all activities. For work at our site, suppliers must provide competent personnel, assess risks before starting work, complete required site inductions and follow applicable site rules, permit-to-work procedures and protective equipment requirements. Hazards, incidents and near misses must be reported promptly. Suppliers must prevent pollution and manage waste responsibly. If conditions are unsafe, stop work and inform the responsible RTG contact. We expect our suppliers to comply strictly with our “Mission Zero” programme.

  • We value offers that address the full scope of a requirement. Where relevant, explain how your proposal covers delivery, insurance, installation, warranty and after-sales support. Clear responsibilities and dependable service after handover help us compare solutions. The delivery basis and minimum requirements for each purchase will be stated in its enquiry or contract.

  • Help us understand the cost and value of your solution throughout its useful life. Depending on the purchase, this may include transport, installation, operation, maintenance, energy use, service support and end-of-life costs alongside the initial price. We assess the factors relevant to the intended use of each purchase.

  • We welcome practical ideas that improve safety, reliability, quality or efficiency. Suppliers invited into a sourcing or onboarding process should use the digital tools specified by RWE or RTG and keep their company information accurate. The responsible buyer will explain which platform and steps apply.

  • We expect open, timely communication throughout our work together. Please identify risks early, share the information needed to coordinate activities and work constructively with our teams to resolve issues. We value lasting relationships built on reliable performance and mutual trust.

  • As part of our Flexible Generation fleet strategy and commitment to the Operational Excellence initiative, we encourage suppliers to suggest improvements to the goods, services and processes they deliver. Ideas that strengthen safety, reliability, quality, cost effectiveness or resource efficiency are particularly valuable. Share lessons from completed work and respond constructively to feedback.

  • We welcome capable local businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises alongside other suppliers. We expect our business partners to respect workers, human rights and the communities where they operate. Offers are assessed against the needs and criteria of the relevant purchase.

  • We expect suppliers to meet applicable environmental requirements and to consider ways to use energy, water and materials responsibly. Where relevant to the work, please explain how your approach limits environmental impacts and protects the surrounding area. We value credible evidence and practical plans for improvement.

  • We welcome solutions that extend the useful life of equipment and materials through repair, refurbishment, reuse or appropriate recycling. When proposing these options, explain how they meet the technical requirement and how materials will be handled safely at the end of their useful life.

  • We welcome proposals that can reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency or support flexible and reliable power generation, where relevant to the purchase. Please explain the expected benefit and how it can be assessed.
